4th Grade Reading

The emphasis in 4th grade reading is comprehension. We continue to monitor fluency but the focus of most instruction is understanding what is read. Comprehension skills focused on are: main idea, drawing conclusions, using context to determine word meaning, and inference.

Students in fourth grade use their increased reading ability to research to find information. For example, this research could be in the form of an endangered species project. This is a highlight of fourth grade reading.

Fourth graders have a monthly reading goal. See beginning of the year packets for individual classroom information.
