In his senior year, he led the Cubs in
scoring and scored, at that time, a NHS
record 32 points in his final high school
game vs. future state Champion Ankeny
Hawks. He was a three year starter,
including being part of the 1948-49 team
that reached the Sub-State Tournament. Mr.
Boyce was a Des Moines Register All-State
selection in 1950 and only one of four
high school seniors named Nile Kinnick
Scholars by the University of Iowa in
1950. This honor is a combined recognition
of athletic and academic accomplishment.
He is also a member of the Nevada Hall of
Fame. After High school, Mr. Boyce
attended George Washington University on a
basketball scholarship and joined the US
Navy from 1951-55. He later attended the
University of Iowa from 1955-57 and the
University of Minnesota Law school from
1957-59. Mr. Boyce was an attorney in
private practice and with the National
Labor Relations Board from 1959-1973. In
1973 Mr. Boyce became a Federal Labor
Judge in San Fransisco until 1993.
