Chuck was the star player of the 1937 team that missed the state tournament by one game, losing to Newton. He was an all-stater his senior year and led the Cubs in scoring and rebounding as a senior. He went on to play college ball at Simpson College where he was all-conference in 1938 and 1939. He also played in the National Small College Basketball Tournament in Kansas City in 1939.
