Driver Education Information
2009 - 2010
Driver Education Students and Parents,
The
following is information you may find important before you and your
student
make a commitment to the Nevada Driver Education program.
1. Mr. David J. Kroese is your studentÕs instructor for
the classroom and another teacher will help with most of the behind the wheel
driving portion this session.
2.
$310 tuition is expected to be paid prior to the
start date of class, made payable to Nevada High School and presented to the
Guidance office, not the teacher.
3.
Attendance and cooperation is a must if students are
going to succeed. State law dictates 6 hours of driving, 6 hours of back seat
observation, and 30 hours of classroom for each student, which is to include, 4
hours of drug and alcohol education, 20 minutes of railroad safety education,
information on sharing the road with bicycles and motorcycles, and exposure to
organ donation information. I will work with students that have pre-approved
conflicts once during the length of the class. I require either direct contact from
the student or a message left by the student in the event of an
illness or emergency before the absence. If the conflict involves more
than one absence, the student should strongly consider waiting to take drivers
education at a different time. Students missing 2 or more classes will probably
not be able to pass the class. (Accommodations can be made over and above the 2
hours of free make-up at
the studentÕs expense of $20/hr).
4.
Students must pass both the classroom and the
driving portion to pass the class.
5.
The classroom section will be graded but not
calculated into their GPA. All assignments must be completed to the
instructorÕs satisfaction.
6.
Completion of the 30 hours of classroom and 6 hours of
driving does not guarantee the student will pass. 3 options exist at the
conclusion of 30 class hours and the 6 hours of driving.
A.
Pass. Pay money to the DOT, fill out the forms, and get
your license unless you have one of the unlucky 3 birthdays each month and you
are selected to drive anyway.
B.
Fail. Must retake at your cost or wait til you are 18 and
drive at the DOT.
C.
Drive at the DOT. Required by the teacher to improve your
driving and be tested by the DOT at a later date.
7. Student instructional driving permits are required and
NEED to be brought along any time a student is scheduled to drive. It is
illegal for the student to drive without his/her permit in the car.
8.
The school keeps the certificates of completion until
it is time for the student to go get his/her license.
Driving as arranged: Arranged with the instructor and the studentÕs driving partner.
