DAC Minutes

August 16th, 2010

 

Present:  Liz Cahill, Tori Carsrud, Marty Chitty, Angie Dugger, Marcia Engler, Jenny Helland, Heather Ludwig, Lisa Markley, Tammy Metzger, Jim Walker, Cathy Walker, Diana Weber, Beth Williams, Nancy Port, Kristie See, Kevin Ericson, Karen Niblock, Linda Prusha.

Absent:  Loni Pringnitz, Mike Ralston, Molly Toot, Kevin Leveck.

 

1.       Review AYP/APR

á          Nancy reviewed with the group the AYP/APR dealing with math and reading.  Elementary grades were 3rd & 4th, MS was 5 & 6 and HS has only 11th grade reviewed.

á          Nancy asked the group if some of the group would be willing to come to a special meeting on September 9th (Thursday) to approve the goals.  These goals need to go to the board at the September 13th board meeting.

 

2.       Innovative Calendar

á          Nancy reported to the group an idea of changing the innovative calendar for 2011 – 2012.  The idea would involve late starts twice a month.  The SIT group thought of Monday mornings where teachers met from 7:30 – 9:30 and students started at 10:00.  Tori commented that Monday mornings might also work better for the AEA if they are needed to come and speak as other school districts usually have Wednesday mornings or afternoons.  A survey is planned to go out to parents for their feedback.

 

3.       Healthy Kids Act

á          Diana Weber passed out a pamphlet regarding The Healthy Kids Act and You!  She answered the groupÕs questions on changes that the school will be making.

 

4.       Race to the Top

á          Iowa is no longer participating in this.  The District could possible receive $282,000 from the Education Job Bill.  Some ideas might be to hire a K teacher, ½ Spanish, ½ PE teacher, adding a multiage teacher or MS reading and math teacher.  A plan will go to the board on August 23rd.

 

5.       August 26

á          Professional Learning Teams –

á          August 24th – TQ day for Elem. and HS and Data day for MS.

á          August 25th – Data day for HS & Elem and TQ for MS.

á          August 26th – Iowa Core Day.  Kathy Scebold from AEA will talk with MS and HS in the morning and Elementary in the afternoon.

 

6.       Common Core

á          This is more specific than the Iowa Core.

 

7.       School Update

á          Walk thru the remodeling project.  Staff might be able to go to their rooms soon.

á          Phone-a-thon starts tomorrow night for auditorium project (Raise the Curtain).
